YOUNG & RECKLESS is Officially Selected and Nominated at Melbourne WebFest

Having lived in Melbourne, Australia in 2008 while going to film school and actually learning how to make actually good films, I’m proud to be saying that FOR THE FIRST TIME my work will be screening at a Melbourne festival.

We’re lucky to not only be officially selected by the Melbourne WebFest, but YOUNG & RECKLESS is also nominated for Best International Comedy Series and is eligible for the $1,000 AUD cash prize for People’s Choice Award (by an online poll), the$1,500 Grand Jury Award, and the Crowd Favourite Award, which will be voted on by the attendees of the festival.

 

“Melbourne WebFest is Australia’s international web series festival. MWF was the fourth festival of its kind in the world, and remains the biggest celebration of web series in the Southern Hemisphere…Melbourne WebFest is working to acknowledge digital screen producers and is creating a hub for networking and professional development in the heart of Melbourne… The festival includes screenings, keynotes, discussion panels, masterclasses, and, a live pitching competition.”

Beat Around the Bush selected by Maremetraggio Shorts International Film Festival

The 18th Annual Shorts International Festival is a festival that only screens films that have previously won awards, and I’m happy to announce that BEAT AROUND THE BUSH has been officially selected. The festival runs July 1st-8th in Trieste, Italy and having been there myself once (whilst hitchhiking across Europe), I would love to go again!

Cast members of YOUNG & RECKLESS are nominated for The 1st Annual Mics Awards!

A big congrats from myself and the whole YOUNG & RECKLESS team to Sierra Pitkin who plays OLIVIA, and Paige Bateman who plays STACEY, for their 1st annual ​The MICs International Awards Gala For Youth nominations for their work on YOUNG & RECKLESS.

The Mics mission is to “recognize, honour and reward Canadian and International youth in achieving excellence in the entertainment industry.”

Sierra is nominated for Best Actress in a Web based Series in the 15-20 age category. Paige is nominated for Best Actress in a Webseries for a Principal/Supporting Role. Both are talents to be reckoned with. Paige was 11-years-old playing a 13-year-old when we shot the show last spring, and she’s a top notch professional, no doubt about it.

Alongside Sierra for Best Actress are Jaslyn Collis (SHIFT THE SHOW), and Cassandra Tusa (JENNY & JEFF). Alongside Paige for Best Supporting, the nominees are Roxy Bellum (ULTIMATE TRAP), Amy Polczer (LAME PARENTS), and Jaslyn Collis (A.N.X.O.).

Paige is also nominated for Best Actress in a Short Film Age 11 (LOVE, COLIN), Best Actress in a Short Film Age 11 (EVERYBODY SAYS), Young Filmmaker/Director Ages 5-11 (PAIGE’S PANTRY), Best Actress Short Film Age 10 (EVIL PLANS)

The Mics will be held May 27th, 2017 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

I just got word from the head of the Pilot Light UK TV Fest in Manchester that YOUNG & RECKLESS won Best International Web Series this weekend!

Young & Reckless is the 2017 Pilot Light TV Fest Best International Web Series Winner

“On Saturday 6th May at MCR Central Library as part of Pilot Light TV Festival Season 2 we held our very first awards ceremony for our TV Pilots and Web Series content that were in competition, and what a competition it was! The quality of the content submitted to us for this Season was incredibly high and came in from all corners of the globe. It was very hard for our programming team to narrow the selection down to our lineup, let alone judge our very first awards. That being said we feel all of our winners (and nominees) should be proud of themselves and we cannot wait to see where their projects head next.”

BEAT AROUND THE BUSH and YOUNG & RECKLESS are nominated for Leo Awards!

Two stellar actors I’ve had the pleasure to work with in the last couple of years are nominated for Leo Awards for our collaborations.

Brenda Matthews and I met shortly after she stepped off the motorcycle she had been riding for 6 weeks. She was going to miss the audition and then in the 11th our of my distress that we would never find out UNA for BEAT AROUND THE BUSH, I heard her voice outside the casting room. Since the I refer to her with exclamation as Brenda F*cking Matthews and that suits her just fine.

Devon Ferguson, co-star of YOUNG & RECKLESS, has picked up a nomination for Best Performance by a Male in a Web Series for our series! Devon co-created YOUNG & RECKLESS with writer, Andrea Shawcross, and the two of them let me come on board to direct, produce, and edit! Congrats Devon and the whole team! He was specifically nominated for the fourth episode in the first season, “Cupcakes” which you can watch at www.ynrtheseries.com
