Last night, I went to a Whistler Film Festival special launch event at the the Rio Theatre celebrating the 6th annual MPPIA Short Film Award for emerging Directors! Last year, I was selected as one of the top 5 finalists for this award and I was thrilled to be chosen once again for it! Woot!
The Motion Picture Production Industry Association (MPPIA) of BC, British Columbia Film + Media and the Whistler Film Festival established the MPPIA Short Film Award in 2007 which provides one filmmaker with the opportunity to further develop their directing career by realizing a unique creative vision in a short film project.
For this Award, I will be one of five filmmakers doing a live pitch for a short film at the 2012 Summit at the WFF on Dec 1 at 10:30 am before a jury of three industry professionals and an industry peer audience.
The winner (announced the following day) will win the $15 000 cash award plus resources “in-kind” valued up to $100,000 geared towards production for their proposed film; my short film is called, Cougars Cruising.
The other candidates and their respective films are;
Don’t Run Off the Trail, Johnny (Nan) Ma
True Love Waits, Jon Ornoy
Apocalypse Café, Scott Kukurudz
The Pertect Pair, Tyler Funk
Cougars Cruising, Brianne Nord-Stewart
The Festival line up and schedule is selling ticktes now through Dec 2nd. For more details go to http://www.whistlerfilmfestival.com/
